Massage & Bodywork Relax the load!

Our Bodywork Therapy staff have been training in many modalities within the scope of Massage, looking for ways to soothe their clients, aid detoxification, decongest lymphatic stagnation as well as release tension & nerve pain.

You do not have to live with limited Range of Motion - it can be rectified.

Each massage also incorporates drainage of toxins from the muscles and tissues, as it is vital not to leave toxic waste to remain.

We encourage discussion prior to and during your treatment with our professional massage therapists so that we can meet your expectations and to ensure the massage is suitable for you.

Remedial Massage is a treatment modality that manipulates the soft tissues of the body including movement for a specific therapeutic effect, rather than a general therapeutic effect

Technique

Remedial Massage uses relevant techniques and movements according to the client’s needs and response. This leads to the healing process, which begins at the cellular level aiding soft tissues in repairing, restoring functional integrity and adapting back to health.

Remedial Massage

The actual treatment intervention, such as massage, e.g. application of adequate and appropriate pressure to the soft tissues of the body including movement is only a part – though a highly significant part – of the whole process. The intellectual reasoning that proceeds, accompanies and follows the treatment is essential and complex.

The accredited remedial massage therapist honours the professional practice protocol to bring about the specific individualized therapeutic change with clinical reasoning.

When remedial massage is practiced at this professional level, rather than a technical level (which lacks adequate educational investigation) it is influenced by a number of intellectual activities: It is directed by the initial assessment of the client, modified to suit the needs of the individual, and adapted in the light of each individual’s response. The quality of the decisions made using this sophisticated clinical reasoning will determine the quality of the treatment.

Remedial Massage has particular success with long-standing back and compound injuries that have resisted previous treatment attempts. Once a serious injury is properly healed, further treatment is only needed if another injury is sustained. Sportsmen and women attend regularly to ensure that unnoticeably small injuries are treated before they reduce performance and become debilitating. Recurrent injuries are injuries that have never been effectively treated.

Common Conditions

Some common conditions that can be successfully treated are:

  • Achilles Tendon
  • Tendinitis
  • Shin Splints
  • Groin Strain
  • Cartilage damage
  • Tennis Elbow
  • Frozen Shoulder
  • Hamstring Injuries
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Scar tissue
  • Adhesions
  • Whiplash
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Repetitive Strain Injury

It is an unusual form of massage in that it does not set out to relax the patient; the intention is more to fix a mechanical problem. However all-round health improvement is seen: better sleep, increase in vitality and performance levels, as well as increased mobility.

Trigger Point Massage

Our Therapists' area of special interest is Muscle Release due to having experienced physical ailments themselves it has spurred their search for answers to alleviate their own pain & locked up muscles.

Trigger Point is a method of massage that focuses on the points of tension within the muscle, a cluster of tension in the muscle that aggravates and causes nerve pain and spreads amongst the tissue if left alone.

Trigger points develop in over stressed active muscles, or even with sitting down too much.

This modality reduces the radiating nerve pain and prevents it from spreading into other muscle groups.

It has a calming effect on the restricted muscle and enables increased blood flow. This provides a sense of relief and relaxation for the client.

A Detox massage with its light technique stimulates the circulation of the lymph to speed up the elimination of accumulated wastes from the whole body

Remedial Massage

Technique

This treatment stimulates the immune system's defence mechanisms, increases the volume and flow of lymph fluid throughout the body and facilitates the function of the nervous system, reducing sympathetic activity.

The lymphatic system is your main line of defense against disease. Lymph begins with plasma that is excreted from blood capillaries, carrying nutrients to your tissues and washing your cells to pick up metabolic waste and toxins. This now-contaminated fluid is absorbed into microscopic lymph vessels and carried toward lymph nodes to be purified.

After purification, lymph is carried through progressively larger lymph vessels until it is returned to blood circulation through large veins in your neck. In a sense, the lymphatic system is the sewer system of the body, removing waste and purifying tissue fluids through lymph nodes.

Cupping therapy is an ancient Chinese form of alternative medicine in which a partial vacuum is created in cups placed on the skin either by means of heat or suction

History

There is reason to believe the practice dates from as early as 3000 B.C.; the earliest record of cupping is in the Ebers Papyrus, one of the oldest medical textbooks in the world, describes in 1550 B.C. Egyptians used cupping. Archaeologists have found evidence in China of cupping dating back to 1000 B.C. In ancient Greece, Hippocrates (c. 400 B.C.) used cupping for internal disease and structural problems.

Procedure

The cupping procedure commonly involves creating a small area of low air pressure next to the skin.

Dry cupping

Remedial Massage

The cupping procedure commonly involves creating a small area of low air pressure next to the skin. However, there is variety in the tools used, the method of creating the low pressure, and the procedures followed during the treatment.

Plastic and glass cups are the most common materials used today, replacing the horn, pottery, bronze and bamboo cups used in earlier times.

Rubber cups are also available that squeeze the air out and adapt to uneven or bony surfaces. In practice, cups are normally used only on softer tissue that can form a good seal with the edge of the cup. A single cup or many cups may be applied to cover a larger area. Some treatments involve the cups being placed in one position. Some cups are placed in a position for a certain amount of time then moved around to other areas. Massage oil may be applied to the treatment area allowing the cup to move across the skin slowly.

Depending on the specific treatment, skin marking is common after the cups are removed. This may be a simple red ring that disappears quickly or dark circles may appear. The discolouration left by the cups is normal and is the result of the suction of the cups and also from the cups being moved from one place to another to break down muscle tension. Usually treatments are not painful. If one cup feels more tight than another the suction can be quickly and easily loosened.

Cupping also detoxifies the body

Toxins accumulate in tight tense muscles because the tension reduces blood flow in the area. Blood flow brings in nutrients and carries away toxins.

The toxins are brought up out of the tense muscles towards the surface of the skin where the lymphatic fluid resides. The lymphatic fluid then carries these toxins away to be eliminated by the body through both urination and bowel movements.

Cupping therefore is not only beneficial in the treatment of muscle tension but also for detoxification.

Our clients regularly comment that this treatment provides them with:

  • Wonderful invigorating glow
  • Relief from tension
  • An overall sense of wellness

A Hot Stone Massage is a massage technique that uses smooth, flat, and heated stones placed at key points on the body

Remedial Massage

Technique

Stones (usually basalt) are placed into a purpose-built Stone Heater which is filled with water. The water is typically heated to 50-53 degrees Celsius.

Once the stones have heated sufficiently, some are placed onto specific points on the body (such as the back, hands, etc.) and others are held by the massage therapist and used to work the muscles.

Certain styles of stone massage also incorporate chilled stones into the routine. These stones are usually marble, and are placed into a bowl of iced water before use. A competent stone massage therapist will know when it is best to use hot stones and when it is best to use cold stones.

This popular style of massage is a therapeutic massage which uses long, gentle yet firm flowing movements.

Remedial Massage

Firm kneading, percussion and stretching of the muscles with the use of the hands, palms and forearms can be incorporated in the treatment.

Studies have proven massage to be very beneficial for our health. It increases blood circulation, removes toxins and reduces tension.

It significantly decreases cortisol which is the stress hormone and improves our immunity due to the increased white blood cell count.

This popular style of massage is a therapeutic massage which uses long, gentle yet firm flowing movements.

Colonic Massage

Our colonic massage uses special techniques uniquely designed to compliment your Colon Hydrotherapy treatment.

This treatment decongests the abdominal area from built up toxins and blockages. It enhances your weight loss and detox results.
